Public transportation in Haifa enables easy mobility to any site and attraction in town
The city of Haifa is reticulated with extensive public transportation, operating from early morning till late at night.
User – friendly
Haifa is considered a friendly city both to its residents and the people visiting the city without a private vehicle. There are several means of public transportation which make it easier to move about the city as well as to and from it. Alongside many bus lines, special ‘neighborhood lines’ in several neighborhoods, taxi service and special taxis, Haifa has also the only underground funicular in the country. All these enable to reach each one of the city neighborhoods, each of the many attractions it has to offer, its splendid beaches, gardens, the museums that are scattered all around the city, the hotels, and so forth.
Advantages that others don’t have
Well, public transportation in Haifa offers access to each and every site, but there are advantages reserved only for the passengers of the Carmelit, Haifa’s underground funicular. A ride in the Carmelit enables easy access to dozens of sites in the city including museums, shopping centers, gardens, promenades, hotels, pubs, restaurants etc., but also much beyond that. The Carmelit, unlike the other means of public transportation in Haifa, is the only one that prevents you from wasting your precious touring time on being stuck in traffic jams during the busy hours in Haifa. Furthermore, it will also bring you to your destination much faster.
Less than 8 minutes separate between the Carmelit first station in Gan Ha’em and the end of its ride in Paris Square Station. Two trains mount and descend at all times, therefore, if you missed the Carmelit departing from the station, before long a new trip round will begin. Riding the Carmelit is considered greener than the other means of public transportation in Haifa, since it does not pollute the air. An underground trip not only preserves the environment, but the passengers as well. Travelling in the Carmelit is considered very safe and is not exposed to road accidents like other various transportation means.
Open also on Saturdays
Unlike other cities, public transportation in Haifa operates also on Saturdays. Selected bus lines serve the residents and the tourists during Saturdays allowing those who do not own a private vehicle to keep on moving about the city in a convenient and efficient manner. The Carmelit operates in all weekdays between 6 a.m. to midnight, and serves many residents who use it for a quick ride to their errands, studies and places of work well as many tourists who are visiting the city. On Friday the Carmelit stops operating as of 15:00 and resumes on Saturday night.
